Bushido Martial Arts Academy offers a practical, "common sense" approach to the martial arts. Our systems are centered around combat or "street" techniques derived from Okinawa, mainland Japan, China and throughout Asia. Our main style is Isshinryu Karate Jitsu(Okinawan) which sets us apart from Isshinryu Karate Do in that Do styles are centered mainly around self improvement and were never intended as practical self defense. In fact, the word Karate was never used until the 1920's. Prior to this time the
Okinawan art was simply called "Te" or hand.
Later the prefix "kara" was added, meaning   "empty", thus karate(empty hand).
Whereas jitsu styles are "methods" and were intended as sound methods of self defense. Sometimes the word "Te jitsu" (hand method) is used instead of "Karate Jitsu"(empty hand method).
